Examples of: Inductive Arguments, Deductive Arguments, & Statistical Syllogism

By Hope-Elena Sardella

1. Example of: Inductive Arguments

Inductive Arguments don’t necessarily have to have precisely accurate premises. The premises’ of an Inductive Argument do need to have a particular clarity to make a convincing conclusion though.

The U.S constitution states all treaties must be taken for legislative for approval.

The Paris Accord was a treaty, and not taken to the legislative for congressional approval.

Thus, the Paris Accord was unconstitutionally implemented and should be null and void.

* This Inductive argument shows premises that are true but can be debated is it political. Overall the Conclusion is correct based on the premises.

2. Example of: Deductive Arguments

Deductive Arguments rely heavily on very accurate information on the premises to make a conclusion correct.

ABC Fire Extinguishers are made with dry powder and nitrogen to propel the powder, to cut off the oxygen to the fire.

A small fire started in a trash can at the park.

The firefighters were able to extinguish the fire with an ABC Fire Extinguisher.

* This argument uses a fact-based premise and there for making the conclusion true. Because fire-extinguisher use dry-powder agents to put out a fire, the fire at the park was adequately extinguished

3. Example of: Statistical Syllogism

Statistical Arguments are for the most part make up the greater substance of our arguments. Because of course how would one win an argument without proof and data too back it up?

Medical marijuana is more than likely going to win against Republicans in upcoming 788 Medical Marijuana vote in Oklahoma.

In lew of recent events in Oklahoma, the state will be voting on the legalization of medical marijuana on ballot 788.

Big business is afraid of this legalization, with fear that they won’t get a piece of the pie, so much so that the significant corporations have funded 453,000 in funding on ad campaigns against medical marijuana.

But the leader of the pro 788 coalition, Jed Green states that; ” We estimate that we’ll land in the range of 55 to 70 percent (for),” Green said. “It depends on how well the opponents’ TV campaign works. We knew this was coming and are prepared to overwhelm it with a surge of grassroots voters.” (Green, 2018)

* I believe this argument is valid, but we will not know until the vote is finalized. This argument uses statistics on the turn out that is predicted to happen at the 788 Oklahoma Medical Marijuana vote.
