Baroque (1600-1740)

The early origins of the Baroque art period can be traced back to the early sixteen hundred until around seventeen forty. The Baroque art movement was led by the idea of bringing back the style of the renaissance (Baroque.1996). Rome was one of the leading patrons of the Baroque movement, subsequently The Catholic’s use of Baroque art as propaganda did not go unnoticed to other patrons. France determined Baroque art was very useful and based the style to proclaim the power and magnificence of the sun king Louis XIV. The Palace of Versailles is one of the best examples of Baroque art and architecture, its noted that the style of Baroque in France is actually a tad bit over the top (Baroque. 1996). Baroque used the techniques of geometry and illusionistic qualities to enrapture its audience through architecture, drama, and a renaissance center revival in art. It may be that the overuse of the art form conveyed messages of arrogance, which has led to its term being used to describe something that’s eccentric. Although I don’t believe this to be true about the style of Baroque, but that Baroque is a result of shifting perceptions in an art form over time.
