After transferring from several schools, I finally found my academic home at Rogers State University. What made RSU stand out wasn’t just the welcoming community or the strong academic support—it was the rare opportunity to pursue my Environmental Studies major fully online.
Fully online Environmental Studies programs are extremely rare. Most universities require in-person attendance for this major, which can be limiting for students who work, have families, or live far from campus. RSU’s program gave me the flexibility I needed without compromising the quality of learning.
The courses are engaging, the faculty is passionate, and the curriculum aligns perfectly with my long-term goals in environmental law and policy. One unexpected benefit? The program reignited my love for writing. I’ve become more active in expressing my thoughts, ideas, and advocacy through words—and I’ve officially restarted my blog, The Mossy Typewriter, where I explore environmental issues, personal reflections, and creative storytelling.Another reason RSU felt like the right fit: affordability. As a student, cost matters—and RSU offers a high-quality education without the overwhelming financial burden. That accessibility has made it possible for me to stay focused on my goals.
But what truly makes RSU unique is its rich history. The university began as the Eastern University Preparatory School in 1909, and in 1919, it transformed into the Oklahoma Military Academy (OMA)—a prestigious institution that trained thousands of cadets, many of whom served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. The campus still features historic buildings like Preparatory Hall, a gold-domed structure that once housed cadets and now serves as a symbol of RSU’s legacy.OMA was known for its ROTC programs, cavalry units, and even a nationally recognized polo team. Though the military academy closed in 1971, its spirit of discipline, leadership, and service lives on in RSU’s commitment to excellence.Transferring can be tough, but finding a school that supports your passion makes all the difference.
RSU has empowered me to grow academically and creatively, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.
💚 Environmental change starts with education—and a little mossy inspiration.
